President Obama is indeed coming to my hometown, Osawatomie, Kansas on Tuesday, the 6th of December, 2011.

Why, I’ve been wonder since my friends and I started hearing the rumors down at the local cafe, the Whistle Stop, where we meet each morning for coffee and conversation.  We joked and ask, doesn’t he know Kansas is a Republican state.

Here it is 4am, it’s raining and I woke up my usual time to go to our local Y to workout, but its Saturday and it’s my rest day. So I thought I would fix me a cup of coffee and share a few of my thoughts about President Obama’s visit to Osawatomie.

Before I begin, I would like to share the history behind our name. Osawatomie is named after the Osage Indians and the Powwatomie Indians. I’m glad President Obama is coming to my hometown. I have deep respect for the office of the Presidency of our great Nation and it is an honor when the President decides to pay our town a visit. I also have respect for President Obama and believe he wants what he believes is in America’s best interest.  This is where I have to respectfully disagree with him. I believe our country needs to go in a different direction then the one he is taking us. I do not believe he shares the same views as President Theodore Roosevelt. Here you decide. Here in Osawatomie we have a great little town with loads of potential. We have a rich history. Osawatomie is a wonderful place to raise a family and start a business, like the one my sister and her husband started some 9 years ago.  A wedding reception facility called the Grand Loft.  Oh, sure, we have some of the same problems that other towns have, but over all Osawatomie is worthy of a visit from our President.  However, President Obama may not get the votes he’s looking for, but he will get to visit a great little town.

John Brown, the abolitionist, followed his sons and their families to Osawatomie back in 1855.  Back when the states were deciding if they were going to be a free state or a slave state.  History tells us that  Bleeding Kansas did became a free state and our John Brown Memorial Park is located on one of the first battle grounds in the long war to free the slaves.

John Brown is a person I very much admire. I wish our current politicians had his courage and conviction that all men should be free. People are not free today.  They are in bondage to the federal government because of the tremendous level of debt that President Obama and Presidents dating back to Teddy Roosevelt helped to create.

Or I should say right after the Creature from Jekyll Island reared its ugly head in 1913.  Yes, I’m talking about the time of the secret meeting on Jekyll Island in Georgia at which the Federal Reserve was conceived; the birth of a banking cartel to protect its members from competition; the strategy of how to convince Congress and the public that this cartel was an agency of the United States government. The chains of debt are equally as serious and dehumanizing as were the chains of slavery years ago.  The slaves knew they were in bondage, the citizens of America don’t.  Debt robs people of their dignity as well as their freedom to follow the American Promise that is stated in The Declaration of Independence and I quote,  “They are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”

I hope the message President Obama leaves with the citizens of Osawatomie and the citizens of all the other towns in America will be that he is going to follow John Brown’s lead and free all of us from the chains of  bondage of the rapidly expanding American Debt.  That he is going to work with Congress, be the leader we need and reduce the American Debt to a level that gives back our freedom and the freedom of our children so we can enjoy that “certain unalienable right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness“.  And that he will lead the Congress in providing the citizens of America with a balance budget, not in ten years, but now.

I hope President Obama will leaves us with the “square deal” message from President Roosevelt and I quote, “When I say I want a square deal for the poor man, I do not mean that I want a square deal for the man who remains poor because he has not got the energy to work for himself. If a man who has had a chance will not make good, then he has got to quit.”

That is what I hope I hear from President Obama and I do hope he enjoys our little town. I’m sure my friends out at our local high school, the home of the Osawatomie Trojans, where he’s speaking on Tuesday, Dec 6, 2011 will make him feel most welcomed.

May I leave you with these words from President Roosevelt’s speech.

“Of that generation of men to whom we owe so much, the man to whom we owe most is, of course, Lincoln. Part of our debt to him is because he forecast our present struggle and saw the way out. He said:

‘I hold that while man exists it is his duty to improve not only his own condition, but to assist in ameliorating mankind.’

And again:

‘Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.”
If that remark was original with me, I should be even more strongly denounced as a Communist agitator than I shall be anyhow. It is Lincoln’s. I am only quoting it; and that is one side; that is the side the capitalist should hear. Now, let the working man hear his side.

‘Capital has its rights, which are as worthy of protection as any other rights…. Nor should this lead to a war upon the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor; . . . property is desirable; is a positive good in the world.’

And then comes a thoroughly Lincolnlike sentence:

‘Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.’

It seems to me that, in these words, Lincoln took substantially the attitude that we ought to take; he showed the proper sense of proportion in his relative estimates of capital and labor, of human rights and property rights. Above all, in this speech, as in many others, he taught a lesson in wise kindliness and charity; an indispensable lesson to us of today. But this wise kindliness and charity never weakened his arm or numbed his heart. We cannot afford weakly to blind ourselves to the actual conflict which faces us to-day. The issue is joined, and we must fight or fail.”       President Theodore Roosevelt
